Creative Weapons, Water Bottles, and Getting Giggs

MY⚡️Feature

featured piece of advice for creatives and creative leaders

Our Greatest Creative Weapon
I’ve heard it said that the one thing we share in common as human beings is suffering. To varying degrees, we have all been through something tragic, difficult, or painful. There is no shortage in the world of worry, fear, and hurt, but I think the worst thing about suffering is feeling that you have to go through it alone.

However, feeling seen, known, and understood reminds us that we aren’t alone in our suffering.

I’ve had countless conversations with people going through hard times that it was a song, a film, or story they read that encouraged them and lifted them up. It was a piece of art that kept them going. They heard, read, or experienced something that met them where they were and comforted them in some way.

Remembering this when I’m creating reminds me to care. It reminds me to empathize with the world around me as much as I can. We need each other and we need each other’s art.

Empathy just may be our greatest creative weapon.

That ability to create from our own place of struggle or even celebration in hopes that it would meet someone else in their place of suffering or victory is powerful.

I hope I never lose the ability to suffer with those who suffer and celebrate with those who celebrate. I whole heartedly believe that my ability to connect emotionally with other human beings is important to all of life, but it’s also key to creating something that really matters, something that helps, and something that transcends creativity itself.

Slow down, see people, and listen well so that you can feel what the people around you are feeling and let that compel something beautiful from within you.

MY⚡️Favorites

some of my favorite sights, sounds, and reads

Water Bottle
Sometimes I don’t even notice the stuff that I use the most because these things are so worked into my life that I take them for granted. I couple of years ago I found the perfect water bottle for me. It has a handle big enough to clip on my backpack, it’s 40oz, has a screw top lid that stays attached, and it can take a beating. If you’re in the market… check it out here!

Record Player
Around this time of year I start getting questions from people about all sorts of holiday gifts for their loved ones. One of the top questions is about record players. If you’re in the market for a great record player for yourself or someone as a gift I can’t recommend the Fluance RT81 highly enough. Get yours here.
