MY⚡️FI MONDAY
practical inspiration for the creative journey
MY⚡️Feature
featured piece of advice for creatives and creative leaders
Clarity is king.
We’ve lived through an age where we hear the phrase “content is king”, but in reality, I believe clarity is king. We should be seeking the deepest levels of clarity that we possibly can in our creative endeavors.
I had a conversation with a friend recently who was helping me really clarify what I was doing with MYFI in this season and every time I would tell him about what I was doing he would ask me to go one level deeper in clarity. I started to get frustrated, but over time, working through it I got to levels of detail and clarity that I didn’t know I needed. Clarity in purpose, clarity in the how, clarity in the process, clarity in the goals and so much more. Clarity is empowering. The same applies in my work as a songwriter and producer. I want the work to be clearer. The lyrics, the meaning, the purpose, the dynamic, the emotion. I want it all to be crystal clear.
If you feel unclear about something, go write about, talk it out with a friend, draw a picture, do anything you can to find the clarity you need to move forward in confidence and courage. And when you think you have it… try and go one level deeper.
MY⚡️Follows
great people to follow on social media
Alin Dragu
(@alindragu) is a marketing and branding expert. He has his own incredible newsletter called “Sunday Six” and is always posting helpful and inspirational stuff. You should follow him and sign up for “Sunday Six”.
Okay Kenedi
(@okaykenedi) is an incredible new artist who’s debut just dropped on Friday! Give her a follow and go stream her new record! She has actually been a guest on the MyFi Podcast before and you can catch her episode by clicking here!
Home Town Crew
(@hometowncrewatl) is a film production company that does amazing work. I had the opportunity to be on set with them a couple of weeks ago and it was a pleasure. Go check out their work!
MY⚡️Finds
cool stuff I found this week
Carabiners
I’m always looking for cool stuff to make travel easier and I found these really inexpensive, but incredible carabiners on Amazon and have one on my backpack that holds my water bottle and a few on my guitar equipment to hold cables… super useful! Check them out here!
The Great Creators
I found a great podcast on a long drive last week called “The Great Creators”. It’s hosted by Guy Raz who hosts another great podcast called “How I Built This”. You should check them both out. I listened to great episodes of “The Great Creators” with country star Lainey Wilson and super songwriter Ryan Tedder.
MY⚡️Favorites
some of my favorite sights, sounds, and reads
Slaughterhouse Five
I’ve been reading “Slaughterhouse Five” by Kurt Vonnegut for a book club I joined and I’m absolutely loving it. Fiction helps me so much as a songwriter and music producer. It’s super inspiring. I read this book years ago, but it’s so good I needed another round with it. Click here to buy it!
The Rolling Stones
I’m a massive Rolling Stones fan and their new record just came out on Friday. It’s their first album of original music in 18 years and it’s fantastic! They got their name from the song “Rollin’ Stone” by Muddy Waters. I picked up a copy of Muddy’s greatest hits and I’ve been all about it this week. The Rolling Stones close their new record by singing this song that inspired their name.
MY⚡️FI Podcast
a podcast about the journey of creativity
Ep. 036 :: Joel Korte
The newest episode of MYFI features my friend Joel Korte, who is the founder of Chase Bliss, a guitar pedal effects company based in Minneapolis, MN. Go check out the conversation we had about making hard decisions with courage, carrying on his brother’s legacy, and the time he thought he was being catfished by Radiohead. Make sure to subscribe on your favorite podcast platform!
